digital volume vs. device volume
I am a bit baffled at how to set these. Optimally - to avoid scrambling the input as much as possible - should the digital volume be as low as possible? What I mean is, is there a setting for the digital volume that guarantees bit-perfect playback?
Re: digital volume vs. device volume
The digital volume is a gain that is applied to the audio immediately before it is sent to the output device. If you want bit-perfect playback you should set the digital volume to 1 or just disable it altogether.

That's great, thanks, I hadn't noticed the Preferences setting to enable/disable digital volume till you said.

Re: digital volume vs. device volume
In the preferences section, what is the optimal set up for best sound?
enable digital volume unchecked is one.
what about load files in memory?
any other tips?

Re: digital volume vs. device volume
As long as digital volume is disabled or set to 1, the output Decibel sends to the audio device will be bit-perfect. Loading files in memory could help prevent glitching depending on system load and the speed of your storage medium (ie large files over NAS), but it shouldn't affect sound quality.

Re: digital volume vs. device volume
Thanks....please excuse my ignorance...how do I disable digital volume?
In the Decibel preferences tab? You mention "or set to 1" - but there is no selection for this within Decibel (?)

Re: digital volume vs. device volume
In Preferences, General tab, the option "Enable digital volume" is under Player Options. Uncheck that option to disable digital volume.
(The Preferences, like in all MacOSX applications, can be accessed under the application menu next to the Apple menu.)

I'm sorry, but I don't see "Enable digital volume" under Player Options. Does seeing it depend on other options?RonaldPR wrote:In Preferences, General tab, the option "Enable digital volume" is under Player Options. Uncheck that option to disable digital volume.

Re: digital volume vs. device volume
That was three years ago. The interface has changed since.
Click the speaker volume icon in the bottom-left corner of Decibel window. Drag the Digital Volume slider all the way to the right to set the linear value to "1".

Many thanks! Turns out that just by trial and error I had set the digital volume to 1.RonaldPR wrote:Click the speaker volume icon in the bottom-left corner of Decibel window. Drag the Digital Volume slider all the way to the right to set the linear value to "1".
