I used Max to convert some FLAC files to m4v so I can play them through iTunes and on my iPod. I noticed that the size of the files was decreased significantly, sometimes even in half. I set the quality for the conversion to 'maximum' and the highest bitrate. My understanding is that both FLAC and m4v are lossless, so I didn't think that there would be so much file size reduction. Is this expected, maybe I should not have used m4v for a true Apple lossless format that works in iTunes and iPod?
