convert fails with "ExtAudioFileOpen failed: dta?"

Post by SinnerBOFH » Sun Dec 07, 2008 1:55 pm

Hi,

I am trying to convert files ending with .acc using the latest version of Max (0.8.1) . I've tried and failed with both Leopard 10.5.5 PPC on my iBook G4 1.0 GHz and on Tiger 10.4.11 on iMac intel C2D 2.0 GHz with same result.

For some reason, iTunes does not recognize those files. VLC has no problem in playing those files. When I try to convert those files into either mp3 or m4a I get the following error:
An error ocurred while encoding the file "12 - Legiao Urbana - Indios.aac"
ExtAudioFileOpen failed: dta?
OK
Any idea?

Using the console, this is what can be found about those .aac files:

Code: Select all

ibook:1986 - Dois SinnerOSX$ ls -l 12-Indios.aac
-rw-r--r--@ 1 SinnerOSX SinnerOSX 1542241 Dec 5 22:54 12 - Legiao Urbana - Indios.aac
ibook:1986 - Dois SinnerOSX$ file 12-Indios.aac
12-Indios.aac: MP3 file with ID3 version 2.4.0 tag
ibook:1986 - Dois SinnerOSX$ strings 12-\ Legiao\ Urbana\ -\ Indios.aac | less

Are these aac files or mp3s? If they are mp3 try changing their extension as that is what Max uses to determine file type.

Thanks for answering.

I think they are AAc files. A sample file is posted here: http://www.ibiblio.org/sinner/12-Indios.aac

I changed extension to .mp3 , tried to run Max again, trying to convert to MP3-Best, MPEG4 Audio-AAC-Apple Lossless, and MPEG4 Audio-AAC and all failed with same result.

Let me know what else you want me to try.

I got the same error. It turned out I had a double set of the offending files.
Example list of the files I was trying to convert:
Tiësto - Elements of Life - 01 - Ten seconds Before Sunrise 2.m4a
Tiësto - Elements of Life - 01 - Ten seconds Before Sunrise.m4a
Tiësto - Elements of Life - 02 - Everything 2.m4a
Tiësto - Elements of Life - 02 - Everything.m4a
Tiësto - Elements of Life - 03 - Do You Feel Me 2.m4a
Tiësto - Elements of Life - 03 - Do You Feel Me.m4a

Same.

The files are .aac ripped from a naw AAC stream without a container.

It would be nice if this app could slap a .m4a wrapper one it.
