Here's a build I made of the current stable version (0.8.1) with the LAME 3.98 framework from the SVN repository. That's the only change I made.

Download: http://www.joshkagan.com/max/max-0811jk.dmg

Source (so that I comply with the GPL even though I didn't really contribute anything): http://www.joshkagan.com/max/max-0.8.1.1jk-source.zip

EDIT: Sorry but I had to remove this from my server.

What benefits (if any) will I have from encoding with Lame 3.98 insted of 3.97?
I tend to encode with Lame at 320 Kbps CBR.

Also, is it possible to encode with Lame flag -h (for high quality) in Max?
Is it even relevant? I'm no guru in this field ...

Thanx in advance for any advice.

Confident that you're using the recommended version (latest stable).
See the LAME history for changes: http://lame.cvs.sourceforge.net/*checko ... story.html

So there are no benefits when it comes to sound quality?
It looks like most of the improvements are in VBR, wich I don't use.
