iTunes plugin cannot add music from my Samba/SMB server

Dear all

My iTunes music library lives on my home server and is available on a Samba/SMB share. If I mount this volume and point Decibel (i.e. the iTunes plugin) to this iTunes library, it will recognize the library and I can view and search the music. However, if I click "Add Selected" or "Add All", nothing happens. I can add the files by drag-and-drop from the Finder, though. Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?

It sounds like this may be a bug. I have an idea of what may be happening, but it will probably take a bit of troubleshooting to confirm because I don't have a Samba server to use for testing. If you'd like to troubleshoot the problem please let me know and I'll post some things we can try here.

Steven, did you make any progress with this? I did not receive an email from you.

Dear Stephen

You mentioned (by email outside this forum) that you found a fix, which you'd include in the next Decibel release. I just tried the newest release 1.2.5, but no success. Are you sure the fix is working? Does anyone else have any suggestions?

If the bug is still present in 1.2.5 then I assume my fix didn't actually fix the problem. Please contact me via PM or e-mail and I will be happy to troubleshoot the problem in more detail.

Hi there.

I'm trying to use this plugin to browse for an iTunes directory that resides on a MacPro running 10.7.4.
I have Decibel installed on a laptop on the same network. However, my music resides on a media drive within the MacPro tower.
My laptop has the same version of Lion running.

Is it possible to play the tracks without copying them to my laptop drive.
I have Apple HomeSharing turned on. This doesn't help either.

Any suggestions?

Much appreciated.

Is the drive from your Mac Pro mounted as a network drive on your laptop? If that is the case, then you should be able to play the files using Decibel.

Thanks for the response.

Yes, the drive is mounted on my laptop. However, the iTunes plugin will only see the local iTunes library.
In other words, the library that resides on my laptop. I cannot direct Decibel using this plugin, to the media drive.

Just so that we are on the same page here - I want to be able to use the iTunes integration.

I am able to add tracks from the media drive by selecting File and "Add Tracks"
But not with the iTunes button.

I think I may understand the problem now. If the iTunes library is set up on your Mac pro, then all the pathnames in "iTunes Music Library.xml" point to the drive as it is mounted and named on the Mac Pro. When Decibel tries to load it more than likely the files can't be found because the pathnames don't match. Do you file paths appear to match on both computers?

Sorry for the slow response - I was away.
The .xml file requires editing is what I'm interpreting from you.
When I try to open the .xml file, Equation editor launches.
Is this where I do the editing.

Or, are you referring to simply changing the path location of where my iTunes library resides on my MacPro.

Once again, your help is much appreciated.
