How to play a wave file?

Post by darthlaker » Mon May 16, 2011 8:55 am

Hi,

I ripped a Blu Ray Audio disc and the whole stereo album is in one wave file but Decibel does not play it.

Any idea what I have to do?

What kind of audio is contained in the WAVE file? I didn't know that you could rip BDs.

I am not sure what kind of audio is in the Wave file....any way I can check this?

My friend ripped it. Instructions here:

http://www.computeraudiophile.com/conte ... -ray-Audio

When I double click on the actual file it opens in iTunes and plays. On my PC it opens in Windows Player and plays as well.

It would be a 96/24 high rez stereo file.

Any ideas how I can get this to work?

Thanks

I don't know what the exact problem is. But my 24/96 FLAC files play fine. So convert them to FLAC (save a lot of space and get tagging capabilities) and try again...

OK, thanks.

Can you or someone please recommend a program for a Mac to use to convert the file from WAVE to FLAC?

Max (from sbooth like Decibel) or XLD

But it'd still be interesting to know why those WAVE files won't play.

Does Decibel accept the file into the playlist and display an error message when you try to play it? Or does it not let you place the file into the playlist at all?

hi,

yes, decibel allows the file to go into the playlist and then it does display an error messgage when i try to play it.

also, i tried your cdmax program on my mac to convert to flac but an error occours again.

weird as itues plays the wave file.

any other ideas what i can do?

i converted the wave file to flac using dbpoweramp on my pc....VLC player on my pc showed it was the 96/24 file. then i burnt this file onto my dvd rom on my pc. i then put the dvdrom into my mac and the mac recognized the wave file but the flac file was not there! back in my pc 2 files are there...the wave and the flac...

this is very weird! any ideas????

thanks

If you open a Terminal window and use afinfo to get the file's information, what does it say?

To open a Terminal window and run afinfo-
  • Run Terminal from your Utilities folder
  • Assuming the file is located in your Music folder, type cd Music and press return
  • Assuming the file is called foo.wav type afinfo foo.wav
The cd command is used to change directories, and afinfo is a tool Apple supplies for getting information on audio files.

hi,

i followed your instructions below and it says failed.

i also copied a flac file to my music folder and it said the same thing.

can you please re-check what you typed to make sure this is correct?

thanks

"afinfo" does not work with flac files here also, but it should work with a wav file. To make sure you do not make mistakes while typing, you can also follow this procedure:

- Open Terminal en position the Terminal window side by side with the Finder window that shows the wav file.
- Type in Terminal afinfo followed by a space (not yet a return).
- Drag the wav file into the Terminal window. (The path to the file will be automatically entered.)
- Hit return. (The audio file info will be displayed.)
