Need to know b4 purchase

Post by rickenback » Tue Feb 19, 2013 2:50 am

Downloaded the trial, love the simplicity and how it works with the Dragonfly DAC. However, I've had nothing but issues with the program which will prevent me from purchasing it until I get some clarity. Reading the existing forums did not answer my questions. Problems are as follows:
1) Program frequently locks up, pushing me to Force Quit. This happens in various scenarios, but most often when trying to exit the program or switching tracks "too quickly."
2) It will not save my playlist. Yes, I do have Remember Playlist Between Launches selected, but it isn't doing anything. With this option selected, should I be able to quit the program and relaunch it with playlist intact? If so, it's not happening.
With these two issues present, I cannot purchase the software. Hoping there's an explanation, because I find the overall experience (changing, sorting, etc...) and the sound quality to be light years better than iTunes. I've copy and pasted a portion of the error log (it was very long, not sure what the important parts are) that I receive when the system crashes. I am running the newest OSX (10.8.2) as well as the latest build of Decibel. Thanks:

I have been looking for a FLAC player that is bit perfect out to the DAC but that also has descent library features and a good user interface. Decibel misses on the library feature: on my machine it takes a long time to load in my library which I have to do manually. i do it manually because it will not save my library. on quit it will beachball for many minutes and quit. you'd think it was saving the library but it doesn't - when i restart the app, the library is blank. so that's a fail. also, the poll on whether to make a library feature is from 2011 so its vapourware.

I've tried Fidelia which is a waste because of the poor library. I've also tried Enqueue which has a good UI and library but is not bit perfect and the dev has seemed to abandon it.

So its back to Clementine.

Why can't someone make a decent bit perfect player WITH a decent library and UI for the mac? its not like there isn't a market for it. Perhaps Decibel should offer to buy Enequeue and strip out the guts and slap the UI and library from Enqueue onto the Decibel back end. For now, since I've already wasted $40 trying out these players, I am going to save my money until the player that meets my requirements is available.

When "Remember playlist between launches" is enabled in preferences, the list will re-appear. Depending on the number of tracks in the list it may take a while, though.
