The default setting is 2. I was wondering what advantage/disvantage a higher number of encoders may have. When should you use what? I use 4 on my mac book pro but honestly, I don't know is that is the fastest setting, it just looks good... ) Any ideas?

As I only have a PowerBook I leave mine set to 1. However, on multicore/multiprocessor machines I think that increasing the number of encoders to match the number of cores or CPUs could lead to a performance increase. But, I have no such machines to verify this.
