On Windows I use CDex. Insert CD, it gets CDDB information then rips to a single folder. Regardless of the numbers of artists, it's one folder - it's a copy of the CD tracks.
How do I make Max do this?

You'll need to set up custom output file naming. You can do this in Max's Preferences, in the Output pane. A format like "{albumTitle}" might be what you're looking for.
