It's not just the user "Mosterterhabas0" (probably a bot anyway).

If you look at the Memberlist and sort it by Joined Date, Descending,
you'll notice that many of them have 'questionable' names or have some 'questionable' sites in their profiles.

Probably all bots.

They are, though they seem to post just once so it's not too big of a deal.

Hmm, still, it's a bit of a gamble.

Isn't it better to play it safe?

Man, the latest bot, with the username "Ballie," spammed ALL the forums, with MULTIPLE messages.

Could anything be done about this?

I've locked the forums to new members UFN.

What could be solutions to this problem?
(other than completely starting over at another forum, but even then, spam could still occur)
Approve new members?

Oh yeah, I'm also wondering:
Are phpBB boards more prone to spam bots than other forums, such as vBulletin?

They are. Not because they are technically more vulnarable, but because they are so widely used and thus nice targets for spam bots.
