My new MacBook Pro

Post by sbooth »

I finally upgraded machines! My old laptop was a 1.67 GHz PowerBook G4 with 1 GB of RAM- my new machine is a 2.6 GHz MacBook Pro with 4 GB of RAM. What a difference in speed! I can now compile Max in less than 5 minutes, whereas it used to take me 30 minutes or more.

Hopefully now I'll be able to iron out those Intel-specific bugs. I've already fixed the 24-bit conversion issues in Max.

How sweet it is!

Dating myself. Who's known for that phrase? And don't bother googling. None of the first several pages is correct.

Yes, the Intel machines are so amazingly different. I have a MBP 2 GHz Core Duo and a MB 2.16 Core 2 Duo, both with 2 GB RAM and running exactly the same OS, apps, etc. Really not that much difference. Main diff is bright screen on MB and backlit keyboard on MBP. Yeah, rendering a few GBs of video would be telling, but otherwise ...

ABout time!
Kidding aside. The MacBook Pro's are blazing fast compared to the PowerBook G4. I went from a 1.5GHz PowerBook G4 to a 2.4GHz MacBook Pro last summer and experienced 1/5 encoding time.

Hey I also upgraded machines recently. My old one was a Macbook pro 1.83GHz intel core duo with 2gb ram and 10.4.1....i lost one hard disk in 5 yrs, luckily my backups have been flawless since windows 95 days and diskettes!! The new mac is the 13" version(i need portability in the mac realm) 2.3GHz dual core i5 with 4GB ram running is notably faster, especially the web.

Other things so far: the airport wifi is much, much better with my exisiting 802.11n router and same room. Also, battery times are great as compared to the older macbook.
