Re: ALAC > AAC

The problem is that both ALAC and AAC have the same suffix (.mp4). Thus there is no place to put the converted file, as it threatens to overwrite the original. Make sure that you have set up your preferences so that the intermediate and final files all go to different places (different from each oth...

Still using Max, still happy

Happy new year - I'm now using Max on Mavericks (OS X 10.9) and it's still working great. Many thanks for making this wonderful application available for free.

Re: How to install Max

Or drop the file(s) to be converted onto Max's icon. That works with individual sound files (.flac etc.) and also with the .cue file of a pair (.cue/.flac etc.).

Re: unwanted pauses in middle of tracks

I don't know if anyone tried this and whether this is worth it to you in terms of wanting to use the "Adjust sample rate for best quality" feature, but when turning it off I'm finding the skipping going away. My question is what is the implication of turning off this setting? I'm using "Obtain excl...

Make sure that you are outputting to a separate folder.

Re: Some tracks won't play

If you really think Max is at fault, convert the very same FLAC files to AIFF using some other application, such as XLD or even the flac command-line tool, and see what happens.

Re: Which is better

I wouldn't trust the iTunes ripper further than I can throw it. I've ripped over a thousand CDs to FLAC/CUE with XLD and then threw the CDs away, and I can confidently assure you that it didn't insert any extraneous noises in any of them, plus you get all kinds of accuracy checks (double ripping, Ac...

Re: More about "The call to AudioConverterSetProperty failed

Yes, that's just the sort of thing I ended up doing. But that's not the point - the point is that this error, encountered in Max, is in my opinion not a Max error; Max is merely reporting what afconvert itself would have said about this file.

Re: 100% ITunes compatible AAC encoding with Max

This doesn't sound like a Max question. It is iTunes's business, and no one else's, to do iTunes sharing. If iTunes can play it, iTunes should be able to share it - without any exceptions. iTunes will share any format it can play - all it's doing is transmitting the file over the network to another ...

Re: unwanted pauses in middle of tracks

Okay, I just had the problem *again*, with a pause in the middle of a playing track, and this message in the console: 1/5/13 4:02:40 PM Decibel[993] Insufficient audio in ring buffer: 480 frames available, 512 requested My prefs are set to Use Larger Buffer Sizes, plus I've set the values manually: ...

Re: unwanted pauses in middle of tracks

Any values specified manually from Console using the keys RingBufferCapacity or RingBufferWriteChunkSize will take precedence over the Use larger buffer sizes checkbox in the preferences. The default buffer size is now 16384 and the default write chunk size is 2048. If the larger buffer option is en...

Re: unwanted pauses in middle of tracks

Even with these settings I experience the issue: RingBufferCapacity = 32768; RingBufferWriteChunkSize = 4096; I just got this in the Console: Insufficient audio in ring buffer: 332 frames available, 512 requested So whatever Decibel ships with needs to be bigger than that. I'll double again and see ...

Re: unwanted pauses in middle of tracks

The answers to your questions are yes and yes. The change for this is in Decibel 1.2.9, however I've been having issues with the Mac App Store approval process. Decibel isn't a sandboxed app so only "bug fix" updates are allowed, but there is no precise definition of what is allowed in such an upda...

Re: unwanted pauses in middle of tracks

You can increase buffer sizes yourself Of course. Not sure what the default values are in the current Decibel versions. But that is exactly what I'm asking. I'm also implicitly suggesting that there's a problem here. This application is supposed to be a better music player. And it costs money. Payi...

Re: unwanted pauses in middle of tracks

Well, this is with the buffers already doubled as described in that post. Sure, I could try doubling them again. But really, if the source of the problem is that the buffers do not ship large enough for practical use, then Decibel's own internal defaults should be changed. Well said, I agree with y...
