Problem with "extraction failure" preference on B12

It doesn't seem to make a difference whether I have the box checked or not, Rip will still throw a track away if it encounters problems. There appears to be no way to get a "best effort" extraction. On the track in question, I get 59 C2 errors, Rip hangs for a while, I get an "Operation could not be...

Re: Rip doesn't save a log file when...

Doesn't it defeat the point of a log when you don't log what happened?

Rip doesn't save a log file when...

an extraction fails (due to unrecoverable read errors, for example).

Re: RIP and MAX differences

A more interesting comparison would be Rip vs XLD (a CDParanoia III 10.2 ripper with AccurateRip support). One annoying thing is XLD can't upload rip results, because the AccurateRip folks are worried about intentional contamination of their ripper database. That's a pointless worry. Besides the fac...

I haven't decided yet- I will post here when I get one and have a chance to test it out.
I hope you're able to complete testing soon :D

Re: Best currently available drives for DAE?

The folks over at HydrogenAudio seem to think that the daefeatures database is of questionable reliability and not really up to date. Newegg thinks the 202N is a 2MB cache drive, while daefeatures says it doesn't cache. Which to trust? Since I'd be attaching this to an iMac, I'd need a USB or (prefe...

Re: Best currently available drives for DAE?

Is the Samsung a non-caching drive? Small or no offset? How well does it detect and recover from errors? Some drives grind to a halt and never speed back up when they encounter errors. What kind of enclosure do you use? I've heard some external drive enclosures make C2 not work correctly (something ...

Best currently available drives for DAE?

I know everybody recommends Plextors, but they're discontinued and very hard to find. What would you recommend for a DAE drive that you can buy new right now and external FW enclosure? Databases like HydrogenAudio's are so out of date that most of the drives mentioned are discontinued.

Re: Max: Current recommended secure ripping settings

Sorta. Rip does not use paranoia nor does it rip to more than one format at the same time. If your CD's not in AR and you want to have the luxury of multi-format encoding ... OK. I've been wondering why Max has been stuck on 0.8.1 for the better part of a year, and why my last bug report didn't get...

Max 0.8.1 UI bug in 10.5.7

Tab and return don't cycle you through the track listing and Title, Artist, Date etc on the ripper pane. When you hit return it stops immediately, or tab takes you back to Title rather than the next track. When you're manually adding track names that means you have to select and double-click each an...

Re: Max generates white noise

Other sources make me think there may be an endianness issue in Max, possibly in the byte order of the ripped CD bitstream being encoded.

Re: Max generates white noise

I wonder if it's some sort of copy protection scheme. It's not mere white noise, it's harsh, brutal noise that would probably blow your tweeters if you had the volume turned up. I had to throw off my headphones the instant I started playing my rip in order to protect my hearing. That still wouldn't ...

Max generates white noise

Max generates nothing but white noise when ripping The Essential Barbra Streisand on my iMac G5. The CD plays just fine in iTunes, but it does something to Max that makes it generate noise rather than listenable tracks. I'm using the cdparanoia ripper, with full paranoia and error correction enabled...
