Re: LAME 3.98 released

^ Then you probably just have three options:.
* Wait for the next release build.
* Hope and pray that someone put up a nightly build for download.
* Learn how to compile.

Here: http://svn.sbooth.org/max/trunk/
Just pull the SVN source and compile it yourself.

Re: Which WAV do I want for lossless wav?

Well, it all depends.
"WAVE" (Core Audio) is a safe choice, which I have been using numerous times without any problems. Within "WAVE" you need to pick the one that match the bit-depth of the original file. Being 16-bit, 24-bit, 32-bit, or other...

Re: Why do MP3's take longer to encode than M4A's?

Because its a much more complex algorithm. Since the MP3 encoder have to analyze the audio stream to find out which parts to "drop out". After all its a lossy codec.

Re: using cue files in max

Just click "File" -> "Open...", select the .cue file and it should open the 'Ripper' window where you select the files you want to encode/transcode.
I have done this numerous times and experienced no problems at all.

Re: Ogg Flac vs Flac

Same codec/encoder, just different containers. FLAC = FLAC encoded audio data in native FLAC container. OggFLAC = FLAC encoded audio data in the Ogg container. Besides iTunes you will have most luck getting ahold of a player for FLAC (native container) files. Cause most players with Ogg support usua...

Re: ripping with other programs running

Should not matter. At least not unless any of the applications try to access the CD/DVD drive.
I always have multiple applications running (Camino, Mail, iTunes, ..) while ripping, and have not run into any related problems.
