Is it possible to read the extra info that iTunes uses to make AAC play gaplessly or will Play only be able to play true gapless formats gaplessly? If it is possible I think it should be implemented before a 1.0 release is declared. As much as I would like to have a feature like that, I don't think...

As much as I liked the concept of the Play Queue, I had trouble with the UI. Always forgetting which function was focussed, double-clicking behaving different than expected etc.

I like this split window actually! Let's how it works out... :)

A popular way to flag MPEG source material is to look for frequencies above 16000 Hz. Bad MPEG encoders (used to) save space by not encoding all the higher frequencies. If your vinyl source has poor high frequencies or somewhere in the transition phase there is a lowpass filter around 16KHz some ana...

Does the -vbr-new option come at the expense of quality? I had pretty much seen it recommended across the board as a standard replacement for Alt-Preset Standard (that is with -V 2), without mention of it costing encoding quality. Thus I was a bit confused when I saw in the Max help menu that "fast...

Hhmm. I see no real reason to use those odd commands. -B 320 is used by default, you're ruining stereo-encoding and efficiency and IIRC q-values have no effect anymore in recent LAME versions, they are all tied to the same setting. You probably got it from some old source... You'd be better off qual...

I see. So patches like "CBR encoded mp3 files with "Info" Xing header have their duration reported incorrected by taglib" that landed last week are of interest to you.

OK, that's a relief. ;) Was there a particular reason to look into MAD for ID3 processing? Some things not satisfactory in TagLib? I assume you use the official release version of TagLib (1.4). You might want to have a look at the SVN version, a lot if ID3 patches have landed since 1.4. 1.4 is nearl...

My bet is on the "/" being the source of this trouble.

Use MAD instead of TagLib?

I noticed you mentioned "Use MAD instead of TagLib" in SVN. Is that just for the gapless-playback part? Or are you switching to MAD for all ID3 reading? IIRC MAD uses the notoriously crappy id3lib for ID3 reading and writing. :( By the way, I suppose this is gapless for MP3 only, not for AAC or Ogg ...

Just had a quick look at that plugin. I'm not sure it's going to work. It plays OggFLAC but not native FLAC apparently. OggFLAC is the same FLAC but then placed in an Ogg container if I understand well. Do some googling on FLAC, OggFlac and iTunes because you are certainly not the only one with a lo...

So I guess the decision would be which lossless / lossy format would you go with? I'd say: Lossy, stick with MP3 for the existing collection. iTunes and iPod handle them perfectly. New encodings is difficult. AAC has benefits but no format is so widely compatible as MP3. Using LAME as an MP3 encode...

First of all, MP3 is handled just as well as AAC in both iTunes and iPod. AAC has some benefits but I certainly wouldn't go and re-encode it all. I'd stick with MP3, at least for the existing collection. As for FLAC. Transcoding from FLAC to ALAC is a harmless operation and will just cost you some t...

Play used to have occasional responsiveness issues with 'beachballs' for a few seconds when switching too fast between tracks. These have disappeared or at least they are considerably less frequent. I've got a feeling it is due to switching from Core-Data to SQLLite because they got less around that...

You're right, it was strange and probably something on my end. I've trashed everything Play-related and reinstalled, it works now.

You may want to make sure Play purges settings and libraries from older versions though (at least in the alpha stage), given this and the other problem I had.

Just a few quick things: * You've certainly hidden this version on your site ;) * It would only work after I manually trashed the previous sqlite playlist, otherwise no window would open and nothing could be played * It doesn't display metadata, at least not for MP3, FLAC and M4A. It does play the f...
