Re: Conversion question

I doubt you'd tell the difference between AAC and MP3 in most cases. File size is different at the same bitrate but not all that much. As for the WMA, yeah the choice is lossless or nothing. I know you're thinking of size but depending on how much WMA data you're talking about converting those to AL...

Re: Conversion question

Out of curiosity: What is the file format you're wanting to convert from?

And why AAC?

Re: Conversion question

You will lose stuff. Each format has it's own specific way of taking the data of the whole and deciding what to keep/manipulate as a result. AAC has it's way. Since AAC will be taking from a set of data that is already missing something from the original, and doing so in its own way, there is more l...

Re: Conversion question

And why do you want to convert? With lossy there will be audible degradation.

Re: Decibel and Airfoil

Works as well as it can. Doesn't work as well as Airplay does with iTunes, or the hacked API Swinsian uses. My experience is wireless: files are on a USB2 Western Digital hard drive connected to Airport Extreme, connected to an Airport Express via Cat5, AirportExpress to stereo via RCA cables - musi...

Re: Max and Lion are just not working for me

That piece is not just old but very old - over three years. All but one of the shortcomings of XLD no longer exist. But the main reason to use XLD over Max is when ripping. Max still uses cdparanoia, and an outdated version at that. In a batch of tests on beatup CDs from public libraries, of the CDs...

Re: Is AirPlay on the radar?

Just tried the latest Swinsian. Sound could be better, even to my tin ears. But what it does have, besides FLAC support, is Airplay implementation. And it is good. In all likelihood I will always be controlling my music through wireless. Decibel, when I trialed it, and everything else, through Airfo...

adding art to FLAC after ripping

Anyone know a simple way to add art? Tag doesn't do it. Any chance of rolling it in?

You can sorta do it with Max but it seems to be basically doing a reconversion. No?

TagMyFlac works but seems to be running an app on their site using your machine. Something about that rankles.

Sure you can. Go the menu bar and click Window, drag to Equalizer, then uncheck "On."

Re: Is AirPlay on the radar?

Airplay = my finally purchasing. Unless Audirvana Plus does it first, but I prefer Decibel's GUI stuff. My ears are not golden; both sound great. And, good enough so that even I can tell differences over iTunes, Vox, et.al.

Re: Renaming FLAC in Lion?

We assume your 10.7.2 is developer release? Were things fine pre-10.7.2?

I am on 10.7.0 and Tag is fine. I can rename in Finder fine.

A permissions problem?

Not so much streaming from specific internet enterprises, but streaming my home stuff in Decibel's quality would be killer.
