Re: Next version of Decibel?

If you don't want to use iTunes at all, you really need some database management functions. After switching from Play to Decibel, I have now been waiting for about four years to see this feature added to Decibel. All I have seen during this time were statements of good intentions from the programmer...

Re: Decibel takes forever to load songs from ext drive

Same here. initially I was force quitting and restarting and not seeing my library. then i decided to let it beach ball and see what happens on quit. it will eventually quit fine and then when i restart the app it spin down in the lower left corner and eventually my library will show up. so it seem...

Re: Native DSD Playback

Quote from Wikipedia: DSD has not been broadly successful in the studio recording or the consumer markets, even though the SACD format has gained more traction than its direct competitor, DVD-Audio. The advent of very-high-resolution PCM media and tools e.g. DXD has led to a decrease in the uptake o...

Re: Lion compatibility

The only part of Decibel that doesn't work with Lion is integer output to the DAC. Sadly, this isn't because of a bug or oversight on my part, but rather that Apple decided to remove this functionality from the USB audio driver. This means that hog mode will still work, but it is no longer 100% cer...

Yes, both channels are working now, using Decibel 1.2.11. Thank you very much for your always expedient work.

Re: Decibel 1.2.10 and missing channels

I've experienced this problem already with Decibel 1.2.9, hearing only the left channel. I'm using a Mac mini 2011 with Mac OS 10.8.2 and Apogee Rosetta 200 DAC, hooked up via FireWire. Since you announced it to be a problem with 1.2.10 as well, I will wait with the upgrade a little longer.

Re: Do I need to adjust Audio Midi setup?

.... Just play the music correctly, and play it with the full information that a high-end user wants. Don't try to be a database or a library or anything else. Well, if I want to play hires FLAC files, then I don't care about iTunes, but I still need some kind of database for convenience. For me, t...

Re: Poll: Feature priorities

I'm finishing up version 1.2.4, which I hope will be the last in the 1.2 series. There are two main features I'm considering as the focus for version 1.3- an iOS remote control or library management. Managing my FLAC files, editing metadata, quick startup with all my songs permanently loaded, separ...

Re: 192khz files

I can only tell you what I'm using. 2 channels is all I need, I'm not interested in a cinema setup with special effects, just good music. I keep my chain as simple as possible, going digital from Mac to DAC, from DAC analogue to preamp and from there into active speakers. If I hear a difference betw...

Re: 192khz files

From your reply, it sounds like I cannot really play 192 khz files without the USB or Firewire DAC, since the Mac will only send out up to 96 khz. I am using a Mac Pro, so would an expansion card work? Please make some suggestions, if you can, as to which DACs or expansion cards will do the trick. ...

Re: can't remember playlist of files from NTFS partition

With version 1.2, the problem is solved now, all my files show up. However, it is taking a lot of time starting or quitting Decibel. I've added about 9000 FLAC files to the playlist, and starting up Decibel takes now a good three minutes. Quitting is a little bit faster. I wonder if this could be i...

Re: can't remember playlist of files from NTFS partition

Thanks for all the info; I think I have enough now to fix the problem. The thing I wasn't sure of is whether bookmarks were being successfully created for the NTFS files. It seems they are created successfully but cannot be restored. With version 1.2, the problem is solved now, all my files show up...

Re: can't remember playlist of files from NTFS partition

One question about the way things are (or actually aren't) working- do the tracks on your NTFS partitions show up in the playlist window on launch and the problem comes when trying to play them? Or do you not get that far? The tracks don't show up on launch, I'm always starting with an empty playli...

Re: can't remember playlist of files from NTFS partition

I'm experiencing the exact same problem on my NAS from QNAP, which is most likely running under some LINUX derivate. So I don't think it is an NTFS problem. I reported this to Stephen and he has opened a bug report. With Play, I never had this problem. Your workaround with the .m3u playlist is a goo...
