Re: Replay Gain scan never completes

Hard drive is 150GB. Only half of it is filled.

I've continued scanning the library and it's fine with no more than 7 or 8 albums at a time. Any more than that and it freezes or I get a kernel panic.

Re: Replay Gain scan never completes

Just a hunch but could this be related to running low on RAM? Earlier I set Play to scan replay gain on ten albums, probably around 140 tracks. I had Activity Monitor open and I could see the amount of free RAM getting less and less as the scan continued. When it got down to around 18MB free I had a...

Re: Replay Gain scan never completes

Yes, I sent the log to Stephen. Hopefully there are some clues in there. I found a couple of lines in the console log which could help. 2008-03-10 01:10:22.297 Play[25342] *** Assertion failure in -[FLACDecoder initWithURL:error:], /Users/me/Development/Play-svn/Audio/Decoders/FLACDecoder.m:97 2008-...

Re: Replay Gain scan never completes

Thanks Ronald. I'm using the latest unstable build. I experienced the same problem in 0.3. Yes I've tried removing the preferences file. I'm now scanning the library in smaller batches and so far everything is fine. I'm around halfway through. Interestingly I started doing it by genre and that was f...

Re: Replay Gain scan never completes

I did replace the memory a month ago. Exactly the same spec. To try and eliminate the memory as the source of the problem I have just removed the new RAM sticks and installed the old one. The same thing happened again, though this time it just froze and I didn't get the Kernel Panic message. The sam...

Re: Replay Gain scan never completes

Yep, looks like I need to do some investigating. I'm fairly new to macs.I guess running the Apple Hardware test is a good place to start. Feel free to chip in with advice. Play crashes each time when replaygain scanning and I get a system message telling me to restart my computer. That is not a simp...

Re: Replay Gain scan never completes

This may be more specific. Play crashes each time when replaygain scanning and I get a system message telling me to restart my computer. When booting back in the panic log is open with the following. :? panic(cpu 0 caller 0x000A8C00): Uncorrectable machine check: pc = 00000000000ACD3C, msr = 9000000...

Re: Replay Gain scan never completes

I've emailed you as the crash log was too big to post. Thanks.
sbooth wrote:If you can send or post a crash log that would help narrow it down. You could also try deleting the preferences, although that shouldn't matter.

Re: Replay Gain scan never completes

Well, I'd like to give you an answer to that but I'm having more problems - though I'm sure they're all 44.1 khz. I thought I'd start from scratch by deleting Library.sqlite3 and rescanning the library. Just a superstition of mine. But now when adding to the library that also crashes before completi...

Replay Gain scan never completes

I've converted my CD library to FLAC with Max. In Play I've selected my entire library and scanned as Album. Around 300 albums. I get the scanning in progress message but the entire process stops after around half an hour with just the first two albums having replay gain tags. The scanning in progre...

Re: Can't get beta to work nor iTunes script

Thanks Ronald. I ran EasyFind (very useful piece of software), deleted all instances of Max, installed the latest unstable build and all appears fine. The script ran ok and Max no longer crashes as reported earlier :)

Re: Can't get beta to work nor iTunes script

Searching with Spotlight only finds one occurrence of Max, 0.7.1. :?

Re: Can't get beta to work nor iTunes script

That could explain it. I'm a relative newcomer to Macs. How should I make sure there aren't multiple versions of Max running? I had problems with both too. The latest unstable max attempts to encode the first track and the application closes. I'm running Tiger 10.4.11 I tinkered with the script and ...

Re: Can't get beta to work nor iTunes script

I had problems with both too. The latest unstable max attempts to encode the first track and the application closes. I'm running Tiger 10.4.11 I tinkered with the script and this works for me. Wherever the script mentioned 'date', I changed it to 'year'. tell application "iTunes" set foundCD to true...
