For Flac, the header is : 66 4C 61 43 00 00 00 22 at offset: 0.
For APE, the header is: Hex: 4D 41 43 20 and I don't know the offset.
Unfortunately, the software crash when seraching for flac files.

Help with Flac and APE files format
Ok, this is not directly related to Play, but the developper probably knows the answer. I deleted by mistake a lot of my FLAC and APE files. I purchased a recovery tool, but it needs some info about flac and ape files (which it sadly doesn't have by default) in order to be able to find and recover t...

Isn't Play Open Source ?
I know the creator/lead-developer of Play (Stephen) has other main focus for the moment so he cannot actively develop Play. But, Play being a popular (I'm maybe wrong) player among lossless music listeners on Mac (ok, not so big population), I (still) find it hard to believe there is nobody else wan...

Re: Features and bug fixes
Erase time/date tag and track number from flac files and it will then take them from the cue file.

MusicBrainz retrieved data not written into file
Is it just me or the data from MusicBrainz is not saved into the track file? Play shows the changes in library and playlist, but if I open that track into an other software (Tag or other) or click "metadata/rescan" in Play, then the old metadata are displayed. If others do have the same problem, I w...

Re: New icons for Play
I like the actual icon.
Changing the name is perhaps a better idea. Looking for Play in search engines is not an easy task.

Re: Remote
I think that from a development workflow point of view it doesn't matter if it's a bug or just a requested feature.
Now I just need to learn how to fill a bug report.

Re: Remote
I have the same problems. Sound level doesn't work neither.
Furthermore, if screensaver is active, forward button stops working too.
I'm using 1077

Re: Lacking Cue Sheet & File Naming
It is indeed regrettable that, when putting a cue sheet inside a FLAC file, Max does not ALSO write a regular, detached cue file in the same directory as that FLAC file. It is not as if this would be awfully expensive, or as if new code would have to be written, since Max does write such a cue file...

Re: bitrate display for (1071)
I have this problem as well. I just ripped a CD with Max in VBR MP3, and they all show up in Play as being 128kbps MP3s. iTunes, however tells me that they are in fact VBR. It would be nice if Play showed the correct bitrate for VBR Mp3s and also if it could display the changes in bitrate in realti...

Re: Watch folder (I think) makes Play crash
I found the problematic files. They were two flac files of a double album, each file being one of the CDs. They each had a cue file. I don't know why, but Play could not play the flac files. Strangely, I have clear memories of adding them myself by hand into Play library and being able to play them....

Re: Watch folder (I think) makes Play crash
I deleted my sqlite file then tried to re-add all my music to the library, but the process runs indefinitely without adding any file. I know this because, I let it ran like 2 hours and because my external HD, where my music is, has no activity. And If i click cancel button in play, nothing happens l...

Re: Watch folder (I think) makes Play crash
Yeah it's my english. What I meant was "to set" in past tense... which I now know is "set" even in past tense... :? So, to come back to what I said, I have added a folder (the folder which contains all my music) to the watched folders of Play. Everything was going fine and the "watch folders" ...
