Re: replace album art without re-encoding

Changing album art is the same as changing text tags -- doing so does not affect the original file quality. To add new artwork, simply Get Info and drop the new artwork onto the album art box. You'll have to make sure to delete the art that's already there. There are 2 ways to do this: For embedded ...

Re: Adding ripped cd's to Itunes?

1) I haven't used FLAC or Fluke, so no comment. 2) You can manually add album artwork - in fact, doing so allows you more control over image quality. Just find the album art on the web, Get Info and then add it to the artwork pane. You can tag an entire album at once. Personally, I use Album Art Exc...

Re: iTunes metadata for AIFF?

AIFF files do not store metadata - what you're seeing in iTunes is the iTunes library database. At least you have them all named, and not a bunch of "Untitled" tracks . . . An intermediate step would be to convert your AIFF files to Apple Lossless within iTunes, thus trapping the metadata (because A...

Re: should I rip as a single file with cue sheet? or no?

The advantage is that you have a continuous, perfect representation of the original CD -- complete with correct gap lengths and (if applicable) gapless playback. A single file with cue sheet can be used to make individual tracks later. The disadvantage is that you have album-length files, and if you...

Re: Need Help Getting Started - Part 2

OK - so if you were to generalize 1 set of settings for someone who wants just a secure ripping mode and the closest thing to the CD as possible, could you recommend just 1? I thought just CDParanoia and Error Correction would be more than enough. For me, I'm not interested in changing settings for ...

Re: Need Help Getting Started - Part 2

I can say this: aside from maybe 3 dozen discs, my CDs are NOT pristine. Only the ones I've bought in the last year would be pristine (because I ripped them immediately into AAC and then put them away). They were never listened to on audio equipment or handled except for 1 time (to rip them). I gues...

Re: Need Help Getting Started - Part 2

See, I was thinking like you - that I didn't need a Cue sheet. But then it was suggested that since I was starting new (from scratch) then it couldn't hurt to have them for the future. If I didn't need them, they'd just be extra files . . . but if I DID need them, I'd have them. Again, I was thinkin...

Re: Need Help Getting Started - Part 2

Thanks for the feedback! I want individual tracks, so I don't have "Rip to single file" clicked on. I've read that I should generate a Cue sheet just to have for the future (when re-assembling a whole album). Is that false? "Check for C2 errors" was clicked ON by default, even with the CDParanoia ri...

Need Help Getting Started - Part 2

OK - I am just about ready to start reripping my library. Can someone please take a look at these settings and let me know if everything looks OK? I'm ripping to Apple Lossless format for use in iTunes. The condition of my CDs is mostly average-to-above average. Ripper - CDparanoia Generate cue shee...

Re: When converting, how to USE album art?

I hate to ask this (it's SO newbie), but: Is there a way, once the music is in iTunes, to set the album art (without searching Amazon or something) if I already have it on disk? Can I drag the album art onto selected tracks in iTunes or anything? Or does this really need to be done at conversion ti...

Re: MusicBrainz vs. FreeDB

The quickest option for me is to copy-and-paste the composer information from iTunes (which uses Gracenote) over to Max.

With 2 monitors, it should be that bad . . . better than entering them all by hand later. I'd rather fix them later than to have them be blank.

Re: iTunes Finder xACT ... why not Max?

I don't really care for MusicBrainz's way of labeling song titles and how much information is missing.

I really want to use Max, but I don't know if it's worth it to have to enter all that metadata myself. I really wish Max just used Gracenote. :?

Re: Question About Online Databases

I can't seem to get MusicBrainz to work. All it enters is the album name and track names . . . not year or genre, etc. MusicBrainz does not contain genre information, at least not currently. See http://wiki.musicbrainz.org/GeneralFAQ#head-6488c5c2fb7503b4ae26f3e234304e07c2b172fb . The year data is ...

Re: Question About Online Databases

I registered for a MusicBrainz account, and entered that info into my preferences, but it didn't do anything.

Any suggestions? There has to be one critical step I'm missing . . .
