Why do MP3's take longer to encode than M4A's?

I am currently ripping CDs as both MP3s and M4As. As expected, the Apple Lossless files are much bigger than the MP3 files. What I am curious about though is that once a track is done ripping and the encoder window comes up, the M4As encode much faster than the MP3s. I would have thought it would be...

Re: Unrecognized Error Message--Help

I saved the tracks prior to closing that disc's window. When I run Max with any other disc is works, but that one disc gives me the error. I will try re-inputting the track info, art... and let you know how it comes out.

Re: Unrecognized Error Message--Help

Thank you. It only happens with that one disc--I am ripping others successfully since that one. If I delete the Pref file, will I need to re-establish all of my settings, or will those remain in tact?

Thanks again.

Unrecognized Error Message--Help

I have been using Max for about 1000 CD's now without any problems, running OS X.5.2. I just loaded up a compilation CD in the external drive which I have been ripping from and the disc was not recognized my Music Brainz. Like many other discs, I manually typed in the whole CD artist and track list,...

transferring setting from one system to another

OK... here's a question that seems simple, but I cannot find the answer anywhere. My Tiger OS MacBookPro died on me and Apple replaced the entire system (that is good) with a new one running Leopard. Prior to sending the old one back I made a cone of the HD. I now have the new comp and downloaded Ma...

Re: Max is killing my drive (literally)

I do not have any problem ripping into Itunes with the external drive, only Max. It does not matter if Itunes is open or not. I just ordered a OWC drive. I will give that one a shot.

Re: Max is killing my drive (literally)

It gets more bizarre: When I put a disc into the external drive Itunes auto opens. If I quit Itunes and only have Max open, the same thing happens as before: the drive freezes, but prior to freezing the drive literally sounds like it it dying-it whirs, spins, sounds like it is trying to locate somet...

Re: Max is killing my drive (literally)

The drive is an IOMEGA® CD-RW 52X24X52X / DVD-ROM 16X USB 2.0 EXTERNAL DRIVE
I am connected via USB2.0.

Does that help shed any light on it?

Max is killing my drive (literally)

Hey all, This was a topic that came up months ago, but I found a work around. I just retried ripping a CD with Max from an external Iomega drive and the drive just dies. The drive works with all other programs. I tried changing computers to see if it was a CPU issue, but it is the same. Specs: Using...

Re: Compilations / Various Artists Issue?

Hey there, I am not a Max expert, but I have spent the last few months learning by mistake. The program is great but the tagging seems to be one of the more criticized features--but for what we paid for Max, it does not leave much room for complaint. The Various Artist issue is a MB issue. Itunes ge...

Re: Multiple Artists

Click on the "Track" button in the window toolbar. You will get a drawer in which you can enter tags for separate tracks that you want to be different than the tag for the album. Select a track in the list and enter the tag info Works perfectly. Thank you. Dcislander wrote: It looks like some compi...

Re: Multiple Artists

If the individual artist names for separate tracks from different artists in a compilation album are not provided by MusicBrainz (I am not sure MusicBrainz even does that), It looks like some compilations are provided with separate track information from MusicBrainz. When I import a comp CD into It...

Re: Multiple Artists

I just ran a test, encoding a track off of a comp with compilation checked and again with it unchecked. Once imported into a media player, BOTH of the files had the track name, track artist and album correct.

I appreciate everyone's help. Relatively new to this, so thanks much.
