warning on 24-bit and flac

there's recent traffic on the flac-dev list regarding 24-bit files. be aware that flac is clearly broken w/r/t compressing them. It doesn't lose data, but it doesn't compress either.

kludge using file naming to hold tag info

It occurred to me the other day that i could probably kludge all the tag info into the wav file name, so that part isn't too important.

Having the unix-friendly file naming (most important) and external filters per song and per disc would still be a big plus.

ripping without encoding, and unixy improvements

So to follow up on my posts from the thread in the help forum, here's what I would like. The real goal is to rip things as fast as possible, and delay encoding until later, and/or on another machine . This is simple enough with max with one exception: I'd like to be able to capture metadata from the...

So, i've tried it now and the result is that my mini can't do anywhere close to realtime encoding to mp3, and it can't do it to flac quite fast as my drive can rip - i have 4 songs left in the encode queue when i get to the end of a 20-song CD. I suppose I could change to flac -1, which would probab...

minor UI suggestion

Hi,

I'd suggest that you change the word "stop" in the encoding staus windows to "cancel".

I interpreted it as "pause" and clicked "stop all" - losing a couple cds' worth of rips.

In addition it might be nice to have the pause feature.

thanks

tagging is fundamentally part of the process of ripping & encoding CDs. I think it should be included.

Adding the ability to modify id3 tags would be great too.

Yes, it is the extra tagging ability that i'm looking for. Without worrying about how i do it with grip (on linux), my end result there is a wav file and a similarly named file that contains ONLY an id3 tag. my postprocessing script then just copies the id3 tag to the end product (mp3 or flac - turn...

Hear, hear!

Max fills a heretofore-empty niche. Until now i've been taking all my cds to work to rip in my linux machine there.

Thanks very much Stephen.

I'm not a big fan of any of the proposed renames, but halcyone at least has personality.

whoops, i hit submit too soon. Is this something you would be willing to add? Another grip feature that I miss is the ability to run a post-processing command on each disc. I used this to grab extra tracking information with cdda2wav (metadata that cdrecord could use to recreate the disc exactly). I...

Any way to get wav file and save tag info?

I'd like to use max as only a ripper - save to wav files, and save a file with id3 (or possibly some other format) tag info.

This way I can encode on my linux server, which is always running, rather than leaving my mac to do the job.

I used to do this with grip on linux.
