Wrong bitrate - still

When I use Max to convert FLAC to AAC, the bitrates are often slightly off when added to iTunes. They should be encoded at 320 CBR, but sometimes 1 song, several songs or an entire album will show as 319 bitrate. If I convert them a second time, sometimes tracks that were shown as 319 will now show...

Re: Unable to read discs?

You wouldn't need to change all those M's & R's manually if you used a script to do it for you. Have you ever checked out DougScripts.com? Downloadable AppleScripts to automate lots and lots of tasks associated with iTunes. The one I would use for this task is Proper English Title Capitaliza...

Re: Why can't Max rip this disc?

Trashing the prefs made no difference at all.

I just did it again and currently have 4 tracks ripped to FLAC, AAC & Mp3, and there's not a cue sheet in sight.

Guess I should post another thread with the topic.

Re: Why can't Max rip this disc?

Hey, that was it! Any idea why this happens?

Thanks for the tip. :)

One more question: Since updating to 0.8.1, I no longer get a cue sheet, although the box is checked.
I've ripped to FLAC, AAC & Mp3, but get no cue sheet for any CD anymore.

Why can't Max rip this disc?

Recently I was ripping some discs, and ran into a problematic one. I already posted one thread asking why Max couldn't retrieve the metadata. Then, several days later, I was adding all the converted tracks into iTunes, and discovered that all the tracks ripped from that one disc (FLAC & AAC) contain...

Re: Unable to read discs?

First off, I have no idea what Vorbis formats even means. I thought Ogg Vorbis was just another format, like mp3, AAC, WMA, AIFF, FLAC etc. I'm not gonna spend time researching it either. Since the get iTunes Metadata script is now working, I can live with Max's shortcoming. When using the script, I...

Re: Unable to read discs?

Sbooth, you answered while I was composing, so I'm gonna post my reply anyway, since it addresses some of your answers also. You do have the correct title (sort of-you spelled it wrong). Musicbrainz DOES have a listing for The Very Best of Dwight Yoakam . http://musicbrainz.org/show/release/?release...

Re: Unable to read discs?

Yes, that is correct. I read about how CDDB works when I was Googling: The database that iTunes uses is called CDDB, and it’s from a company called Gracenote . When you load a CD into iTunes that’s had its data uploaded to CDDB, it’s identified based on the length and order of the songs on it, which...

Re: Unable to read discs?

I've been waiting for someone to say if Max used a different method of identifying a disc than does iTunes or Toast, but no one has. I don't profess to be knowledgeable about the way a disc is made, nor how apps read them. I assumed that each disc has an identifying number that an application such a...

Re: Unable to read discs?

OEM drive in my 2005 iBook G4. Everything but Max is able to read the MCN. When I open the discs in Finder, all the track titles are shown. ITunes and Toast can read them. Finder gets the info directly from the disc, like any CD player. Toast from CDDB, and iTunes from Gracenote. Max is able to retr...

Re: Unable to read discs?

Yes, they are listed in the Musicbrainz database.

Toast is also able to read them.

Unable to read discs?

Today I tried to rip two discs (using 0.8.1), and Max failed to display any CD info. Well, it does display the track numbers and lengths, but that's all. I deleted the Pref file and tried again, with same result. The log said unable to read the disc's media catalog number (MCN) . Then I tried a thir...

Re: Would failure to delete preference file damage quality?

The comment tag wasn't displaying what I'm used to seeing. Usually it says something about being encoded with FLAC frontend... Now it says something completely different, about Core Audio settings. Before posting my thread, I had read in this thread http://forums.sbooth.org/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1609...

I want my button back!

In 0.7.1 or just before, I found 2 new buttons located at the bottom of the Converter window. One on the left called Encoder Settings, and one on the right called Encode. After updating to 0.8 they're gone . I was glad when they showed up as this made it easier for me to access the encoder settings....

Would failure to delete preference file damage quality?

I recently updated to 0.8 without deleting the old preference file, causing Mac to crash. Then I deleted the pref file and converted about a dozen CD's worth of FLAC files to AAC. So far I've got about half of them into iTunes, and I just noticed that the comment field in most (but not all) of the C...
