Re: Poll: Feature priorities

Well, I disagree with some of your assumptions, but that's just me. This isn't the place to discuss whether "bit-perfection" is all there is to high quality audio reproduction in an imperfect world of imperfect equipment. Off hand, I'm not aware of anything that Decibel does, aside from the focus on...

Re: Poll: Feature priorities

Maxlover, that's a great idea. My thought was similar to yours, but would use a separate window. Same general concept though. Here's the problem I see: Just where do you stop? For example, I usually listen to an entire album at a time. With my tracks already arranged by artist and album, this is eas...

Re: Feature Suggestion: Bit Perfect Mode

"Bit Perfect" is a contentious subject. Even iTunes is bit perfect if the features you listed are turned off. But, many users agree that Decibel (as well as some other applications) sound much better than iTunes. You may or may not agree, which is really OK, but that's been the experience of many us...

Re: Integer mode in Decibel?

This is a known problem with certain vintage and model Macs. All the playback applications have this same problem.

"This takes time."

I think Stephen has a setting in a file that will control this if you ask him.

Well, like I said, I sure didn't know. Now I do. Thanks for the information!

I guess some OS X third-party application authors didn't know either...

Re: Poll: Feature priorities

"I especially would appreciate the 'Add selection of iTunes' button coming back." "I especially would appreciate the 'Finder button' coming back." You guys are all really confusing me. Both of these features are in the version of Decibel I downloaded just today. I'd have to check, but I think they h...

Re: Decibel 1.2.4 prerelease available

It's not a bug - it's an undocumented feature that everybody has.

Stephen has always fixed every other little thing like this; I imagine he will fix this as well.

Re: Digital Volume

This is really a support forum, so I wouldn't expect many people to want to discuss the fine points of this sort of thing here, except in regard to how Decibel works (or doesn't in the case of a bug). Just one question - if you can't hear a difference, and it's absolutely believable that you might n...

Re: Digital Volume

"Are there different types of Digital Volume Controls?" Yes and no. Yes, they all use the same basic process. No, in that the details of how they might apply dither or rounding is probably different. As for XXHiend and the rest, each is entitled to her or his own opinion. I think when you get to thi...

Re: Digital Volume

The basic approach of "digital volume control" is to multiply each audio sample by some factor so that the level is lower. That all sounds nice and easy, but it should be somewhat obvious that this corrupts the original signal. So, what? Here's what one guy has to say: http://extra.benchmarkmedia.co...
