libsndfile Control

Post by CG » Thu Oct 15, 2009 1:46 pm

One of the cool things about Audiofile Engineering's Wave Editor is that you can choose whether to use CoreAudio or iZotope sample rate converters and word length modifications. You can also set various parameters like the level of pre-ringing and post-ringing, filter steepness, the type of dither added and so on.

Obviously iZotope isn't suitable for for Max. But, I think these same functions and controls and more are available in libsndfile. At least they are in the SoX command line program that is based on libsndfile.

Can the option to use SoX or CoreAudio converters and various filter and dither parameters be added in some future version of Max?

This is a huge feature request. Realistically I'm not sure if I will have the time in the near future to implement something like this. I know where you are coming from, though, and I've thought along the same lines before.

Fair enough. I didn't have any idea how hard it would be to get there from where you are.

Thanks for the response.
