FLAC and Vorbis updated

Post by krmathis » Thu Jul 26, 2007 5:52 pm

I want to let you know that new versions are out for both FLAC and Vorbis.

FLAC, updated to version 1.2.0
Change log (short one):
* automatic SSE OS detection at runtime (so no need to specifically enable SSE at compile time)
* small encoder and decoder speedups

http://flac.sourceforge.net/index.html

Vorbis (libvorbis), updated to 1.2.0
Change log:
* new ov_fopen() convenience call that avoids the common
stdio conflicts with ov_open() and MSVC runtimes.
* libvorbisfile now handles multiplexed streams
* improve robustness to corrupt input streams
* fix a minor encoder bug
* updated RTP draft
* build system updates
* minor corrections to the specification

Hope they find their way into Max! :)

Mind you, I am not a Vorbis expert but I believe this still doesn't have the aoTuV branch integrated so switching from aoTuV to 1.2.0 would be a step back regarding audio quality.

I had forgotten about this- you're right though, aoyumi's improvements didn't make it in to 1.2.0. Hopefully he will release a new version of aoTuV based on 1.2.0. I think this will happen sooner than his changes being integrated into the vorbis source trunk.
