I'm in the process of attempting to convert ~20000 ALAC files over to FLAC and AAC. Max has a couple things with it that really prevent this from happening in a time efficent manner. First, it attempts to read each and every files meta data upon load. If you load more than around ~1000 files at a time, Max crashes (and it takes forever for it to read those files). A program like DB Power amp just gets a directory listing and reads the metadata upon load and allows for much easier batch loading and conversions of files. Second, Max, upon having ANY error, just sits there, waiting for user input, before continuing to encode any further, which prevents me from walking away while the conversion takes place. It would be nice if it just wrote everything to a log file, allowing me to see what errors occurred after the batch encode took place.
Max is a great program, and I can't wait for future versions.
Discuss the current and future development of Max.
