Difference in AIFF encoders

Post by sidssp » Mon May 18, 2009 8:30 pm

I am converting some FLAC to AIFF and find that there are two AIFF encoders: AIFF (Linear PCM) and AIFF (APPLE/SGI). What are the differences?

Thanks for all the helps in advanced.

They will produce the same audio; AIFF (Linear PCM) is the Apple-supplied AIFF encoder, and the other is provided by libsndfile.

Thanks for the answer. The AIFF encoder from libsndfile has a lot more choices in the setting, most of them I have never heard of like U-Law, A-Law, IMA ADPCM, GSM 6.1, etc... How do I determine which one to use?

You more than likely want to choose PCM.
