Max does not understand CUE file

Post by germ » Fri Sep 12, 2008 5:24 am

This is actually a repost from Jan of this year. The problem still has not been solved.....
The CD rip came with 4 .CUE files, called XYZ.flac Image.cue, XYZ.flac Noncompliant.cue, and the same with wav instead of flac. When opened with Max, only the .flac Noncompliant one generates a list of tracks. However, the times are screwed up, and it generates files that report a wrong file size, and iTunes does not advance the time marker while playing them.

This is really annoying. It would be great if Max could understand those file. Alternatively, perhaps the files are not formatted correctly. Is there some documentation about how a .cue file must be formatted?

Thanks.

Here is an example of CUE file that generates bogus file lengths.

me sadly either having problems with all cue-files that have "INDEX 00" AND "INDEX 01" (guess it´s for pre-gap.) max always cuts the songs wrong from such cue-files.

I always I understood the cue sheet spec (http://digitalx.org/cuesheetsyntax.php) to say that all tracks must contain an INDEX 01 for the track start. INDEX 00 is reserved for the pre-gap, and is optional. But, after looking again, I'm not so sure. In any case, since that cue sheet doesn't contain an INDEX 01 for some tracks, Max won't understand it. I assume you expect tracks with INDEX 00 00:00:00 to have no pregap and contain an implied INDEX 01 of 00:00:00?

I am not sure. I have not studied the .CUE specification.
As I understand it, there are 10 tracks in this CD, each with its own .flac file. Therefore, each entry in the .cue file simply specifies

INDEX 01 00:00:00

which I take it to mean that the track actually starts at the beginning of the .flac file with no gap.

The problem is with track 5, the only place where there is a 15s gap. Max reports the length of track 5 to be 15 s (which is the gap) instead of the track length.

Can you tell me what would be the proper .cue format for this?

When I tried to open .cue in Max (Macintosh Audio for OS X) it answered:

"The document “Prowokator.cue” could not be opened. Unable to open the input file."

But .wv file alone works fine with Max.

Any ideas?

Does the file "Prowokator.wv" exist in the same directory as the cue file?

I had this problem once. I added a blank line at the end of the .cue file and it worked (MAX opens it).

Brilliant! I have been struggling with this for some time, comparing two .cue files, one working and one not, never thought to look for that. You have saved the day - and my hair that I was pulling out.

Horribly annoying bug.
