Max produces duplicates en masse

Post by igroucho » Tue Jul 22, 2008 11:03 am

I have converted FLACs into ALACs and I get loads of duplicates only the duplicate with the ending 1.m4a. Most irritating and tricky to sort out since there in fact are file-names with that ending (esp in classic music), but try to find them among 3K files...

Are you converting to more than one format? What do the filenames look like?

I have only one fileformat specified as output in prefs: Apple Lossless.
like
01 - The Duplicates - Duplicate.m4a
01 - The Duplicates - Duplicate 1.m4a

It'd be nice to get an answer to what's happening here. I will forward all details you might need. This aint the first time this happens I'd say it has been frequent. The folders are liitered with duplicates all with the mentioned naming scheme.

Please post your output formats, your file naming scheme and an example input file (name and path).

Output format: Apple Lossless (subfix .m4a)
Input: .flac
The flacs reside in a folder on a 1 TB internal HD - drive bay 2 in a PM G5 2.0 GHz (8 GB RAM)
The ouput folder (recieving the alac.s) is located on the desktop (/Users/igroucho/Desktop/ALAC
The producing of duplicates don't happen in every folder but when it does happen Max will make one duplicate for every item in the folder, the exact name but for the interposition of "(space)1" followed by ".m4a"

Could you also post the name of one of the input files that is being duplicated? Is there more than one file with that name or metadata in the source?

Q1: 01 - Black Night.flac (from Deep Purple in Japan CD2 "The Encores")
Q2: (s there more than one file with that name or metadata in the source?) I'm not completely certain what you are lookin for here. Max produces duplicates of ALL files in a vast number of folders residing in a folder I have named "MUSIC". All are flacs and have all kinds of different names, like a normal population of CDs/tracknames. I have ripped them virgin from CDs using Exact Audio Copy on a pc so the only metadata they have are flac metas, no other tags. I have finnished them off to have them tagged more extensively than EAC will provide (like artwork, number of CDs/CD number, year, compilation, comments etc) using mp3tag in 99% of the files and finetuning just a few, relatively, with Tag.

1. You do have only one copy of Max on your Mac (including attached drives) and there is only one instance of Max process running while you do the conversion?
2. You have no duplicate selection of the output format in Max preferences?
3. Which are your settings for the output file naming?
