why does v.80 uses date field instead of year?

Post by dbx90 » Mon Apr 14, 2008 5:40 am

when trying to convert a flac to mp3 and the flac file has a year the mp3 gets converted with the year field blank.
why the switch to the date field instead of year in metadata?
media rage shows the year field as a standard field and the date field as an extended ogg only field.

and thanks for creating such a great program like Max!

Max should translate numeric FLAC date fields to MP3 year tags. I take it this is not what you have observed?

Well, actually I use Media Rage to add the year to the flac and clear the date field. this method worked fine with .71 but with .80 it does not look at the year only the date, which is empty. so the mp3 year in turn is empty.
just seems strange the flac is using the field date for year so I have been clearing it and entering it into the year field.

If MediaRage uses YEAR in FLAC files it is non-standard. While there is no definitive (from Josh) set of FLAC tags, FLAC uses Vorbis comments and follows the Vorbis comment spec. You'll note that YEAR is not mentioned anywhere, only DATE, as DATE is inherently more flexible.
