Does my MBP's SuperDrive/LaCie DVD writer cache audio?

Post by Nubben » Wed Mar 26, 2008 10:30 am

Hi,

I am currently using Max to rip my CD's into ALAC. I am using the cdparanoia setting with error correction.

However, from what I understand, Max will not with 100% certainty be able to rip the CD's in this mode if the drive caches audio. I know that EAC for Win has a function which will determine if the drive actually caches or not. Max does not have this feature (?). I have tried to set up EAC using WMWare Fusion but the program and drive hangs every time.

Is there a Mac solution to verify this? Is there a registry or something where one can look up whether ones drive is caching? I have googled all of this and come up with nothing.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Don't most Windows folk not trust EAC's report of whether or not the drive is caching? IOW, assume it does even if EAC reports it doesn't. EAC works with Parallels.
