update on status? -- MAX-ripped gapless ALAC files on iPod

hi all,

having scanned the various troubleshooting etc threads wrt gapless playback issues, wondering if there is resolution a/o known path to resolve problems with playback of MAX-ripped gapless ALAC files on iPod? Or, is it *confirmed* to be an iPod "problem"?

I am experiencing what seem to be "the standard symptoms": MAX-ripped files (cdparanoia ripper; error correction full parnoia) to Apple Lossless format will generally play correctly in iTunes, but often do not play correctly on iPod. Selections which should flow together (and which indeed do when played in iTunes) exhibit a gap which appears as a "click" or "pause" between segments. These are often short tunes, guess that means it shouldn't be an iPod limited-buffer-length problem?

Same tracks ripped with iTunes play correctly on iPod.

As I would like to use MAX's cdparanoia ripper instead of iTunes, my solution for a while has been to rip with MAX to ALAC; dump the files into iTunes; and then do a "Convert Selection to Apple Lossless" in iTunes. This has generally worked well... until recently, when I seem to be finding more gapless titles which do not play correctly on iPod.

MAX 0.7.1 / OSX 10.4.10 / various iPods, all latest SW (most recent is 60G video w/ iPod SW 1.2.1)

Info, help, pointers all greatly appreciated!
