Lost Data: Apple Loops (.aif) to ALAC (.caf)

Post by Hozay » Tue Oct 09, 2007 7:39 am

I just used Max to convert many GBs of Apple Loops to Apple Lossless / CAF. It took awhile, but the files sound great and take up less than half the space. Unfortunately, the metadata for the Apple Loops got lost in translation. "Tempo" and "Key" have vanished and "Beats" now shows the duration of the loop in min:sec rather than number of beats. Did I do something wrong or is it not possible to retain all the data with the files?

I should add that the loops (.caf) that ship with the latest version of Garageband show all the data in the right places.

Thanks,

Hozay

You didn't do anything wrong- Max doesn't look for Tempo and Key metadata. This is likely something that would be simple to add- please file a request on the tracker if this would be of interest.
