Error converting musepack file

Post by srcosmo » Sun Sep 09, 2007 11:29 pm

I have a lot of Musepack files, most of which I encoded myself with foobar2000. I'm using Max to convert them into formats that iTunes will read. However, I consistently get this error, which prevents conversion:
An error occurred while encoding the file "whatever.mp3".

The file does not appear to be a valid musepack file.
I can provide one of the Musepack files if someone wants to have a look.

I would like to have one of the problematic MPC files- can you send it to me at sbooth dot org?

OK, sent. Thanks for the quick response. :)
I'm fairly sure the files themselves are legit, because they'll play fine in VLC and Cog.

I'm having the same problem when trying to convert a set of MPC files in Max. These files are OK, they can be played correctly in VLC and foobar2000, but I get a "The file does not appear to be a valid Musepack file." error.
Should I send you one of these .mpc's?

Do the files play correctly in Play?

No, they don't. When I drop the files they're not added to the playlist but don't get any error message at all either. Strange behavior...
VLC plays them, I double-checked.

Can you send me one for testing?

I think I've fixed the problem- there was a decoding error on little-endian machines. I've fixed the unstable version of Play, and Max should follow suit soon.
