Conversion to MP3 Question

Post by jheimbuch » Mon Mar 18, 2013 3:22 am

Just purchased a new Macbook mainly for the digital storage of music. Seeing as my favorite ripper (Audiograbber) is not available for Mac, I need a new one. I've read good things about Max, so I gave it a try. I love it! However, I have a question...

When ripping a CD to an MP3 file, I noticed that Max seems to rip the music or data from the CD and then convert "it" to an MP3 file. When Max rips the data off the CD, is it basically creating a .wav file and then converting it to an MP3 file? Or does it rip it to some other type of file format and then convert to MP3? Just wondering as I don't want the data coming off the CD being encoded to one type of file and then encoded again (more compression).

Does this make sense?

Thanks for the help.

Max does first extract to .wav and then converts the wav to the output format.
