Replay Gain

Post by JupiterRoom1984 » Fri Aug 23, 2013 5:50 am

Greetings all :)

I recently just purchased Tag particularly for it's Replay Gain feature. I am curious to know how this works compared to other replay gain abilities found in other programs.

How is the replay gain calculation applied to the track? Is there a way to change the reference loudness db from 89db? I would prefer to go slightly louder and have my files replay gained accordingly.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers from Michael

Tag applies replay gain following the specification at http://wiki.hydrogenaudio.org/index.php ... cification

The actual code for the analysis is essentially the same code that has been floating around since 2001 written by David Robinson and Glen Sawyer. It is the same as used by the reference FLAC encoder, among others.

The calculation doesn't affect the audio of the file at all- the calculated values are stored in tags specific to the format. The reference gain value cannot be changed but some audio players allow preamplification which accomplishes the same thing.
