Decibel 1.2.3 prerelease available

Post by sbooth » Sun May 29, 2011 10:45 pm

I'd like to expand testing of Decibel to a wider pool of testers before official releases. If anyone would like to test a pre-release version of Decibel 1.2.3, I've posted a build at http://dl.dropbox.com/u/21004626/Decibe ... elease.zip

The notes documenting changes are at http://sbooth.org/Decibel/release_notes/1.2.3.html

I would appreciate hearing of any issues discovered, either via e-mail or a note here

Thank you for bringing back "load selection from iTunes" but please, don't let me click twice for this action (I use this very often). Please make two plugIns out of this plugIn and let people have the choice in the preferences.
Otherwise no issues observed so far.

I have tested 1.2.3 a bit as well. I've encountered a few minor issues:
  • Like Lyr said, the Play button doesn't change into a Pause button
  • Last.fm scrobbling works, but the Now Playing Update is only done for the first track. Occasionally, when I add more tracks to the current playlist, the first of these newly added tracks will also generate a Now Playing Update, but not always.
I haven't noticed any other issues so far. I'm still generating Decibel.log logfiles. Are you interested in those?

I'm aware of some buffering issues on 1.2.3 and I'm working to fix them- this could lead to occasional glitches and is the source of the strange UI indications.

I've no idea why the scrobbler plug-in wouldn't work, as it is the same one I posted in the other thread with one bug fix.

sorry, it sounds stupid, i know, but it do not work properly. Even with the bug-fix you posted in the other thread i have again no updating in the last.fm-stats, also when i use 1.2.3 and the plug-in you posted there...

now suddenly i have an update in my last.fm-stats of some (not all) albums i played yesterday...
seems that decibel tried to submit whole sets of old songs and have maybe problems with this and therefore blocking the newly ones ... :?:
no idea...

Hi Stephen,

I checked the MD5 sums of the Scrobbler bundle in both the pre-release you made available and the fixed bundle for 1.2.2

Checksum of Decibel.app/Contents/PlugIns/Scrobbler.bundle/Contents/MacOS/Scrobbler in 1.2.2 (with fixed Scrobbler.bundle)

MD5 (Scrobbler) = c4323109a05a6831d067e412ecf9f688

Checksum of Decibel.app/Contents/PlugIns/Scrobbler.bundle/Contents/MacOS/Scrobbler in 1.2.3 pre-release

MD5 (Scrobbler) = 9c90f24cff5c61db1649ae68c1619cac

So I guess there is some difference between both. The one in the 1.2.2 release works excellent for me, the one in 1.2.3 also works, but only sometimes does a Now Playing update.

If you need logfiles, I'm glad to upload them...

I've posted the second prerelease of version 1.2.3, still available from the same URL: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/21004626/Decibe ... elease.zip

Hi,

and thx for the work of the new version!!
Still some little problems with the UI indications...
The last.fm "now playing" seems to be submitted now correctly, but i have still no submit at the end of the song.
Thats very annoying, because when you first posted the fixed plugin it worked pretty well, but with the new 1.2.3 version it do not!! why?
Probably it has to do with my system?, because the others have not more these problems... can i do anything to put my system in a status as it was before? Something like clear the cash or ... sorry i think iam a really newbie

Can you describe what the erroneous UI indications are, and the accompanying audio?

I'm not sure why your scrobbles aren't working- one thing you can try is to delete the ~/Library/Preferences/org.sbooth.Decibel.PlugIn.Scrobbler.plist file. If you still have problems after that enabling logging might shed a bit more light on things.

Hi!

The error in the UI seems to be not very hard (better with the new version). Sometimes the 'Play'-Button is wrong, f.i. it shows 'Stop'-Symbol while its playing or 'Pause' while its paused. But it is not that often as it was before...
Some other strange behaviour which i recognized (although i dont know if it has to do with decibel, but it happens while decibel was running)is, that my sound was complete off for some minutes... after a while it worked again.. strange ?!

About last.fm, i deleted the file you mentioned, but nothing changed...
here is my log-File (of a couple of minutes) : http://dl.dropbox.com/u/31322525/Decibel.log
hope it will help... thanks for the try!

regards

This new logfile could show the problem with the sound, which suddenly went off and after a while went on again... Maybe it has to do with the standby mode?

I've posted the third 1.2.3 prerelease. I think scrobbling should work now!

Hi Stephen,

I can confirm the "now playing" isn't working in the 3rd pre-release (it was working for me in the 2nd though)
