Using Mac App Store Receipts with direct-download versions

Post by sbooth » Sat May 28, 2011 7:24 pm

As of Decibel 1.2 it is possible to use a receipt obtained by purchasing Decibel through the Mac App Store (MAS) to unlock the direct-download version. The process will be automatic once Apple approves a newer version of Decibel on the MAS, but until then it can be accomplished manually with the following steps:
  1. Create a folder called App Store Receipts inside the ~/Library/Application Support/Decibel/ folder (or your localized equivalent).
  2. Locate the copy of Decibel from the MAS, and copy the Contents/_MASReceipt/receipt file into the folder created in step 1. You'll need to use the "Show Package Contents" menu item to look inside the app itself.
Expanded directions:
  1. Open a new Finder window
  2. Press command-shift-H to go to your home folder
  3. Open the Library Folder
  4. Open the Application Support folder
  5. Open the Decibel folder
  6. Press command-shift-N to create a new folder, and call it App Store Receipts
  7. Open the App Store Receipts folder
  8. Leave this window open but move it aside (you'll copy the receipt into this folder later)
then:
  1. Open a new Finder window
  2. Press command-shift-A to go to your Applications folder
  3. Select Decibel (from the MAS), right-click, and choose Show Package Contents
  4. Open the Contents folder
  5. Open the _MASReceipt folder
  6. Copy the receipt file to the App Store Receipts folder that is open in the other window
