FLAC image rips not saving

Post by fracai » Wed Jul 08, 2009 2:22 am

After setting up Rip to encode to FLAC, with a custom output path, I tried ripping a disc, with a data session to check AccurateRip handling.
"FLAC/{albumArtist}/{albumDate} - {albumTitle}/{albumArtist} - {albumTitle}"
When no files showed up during the rip, I ran a search, found the temp files, and watched the WAVEs appear as the rip progressed. When it was over I saw the log appear, but no music. I increased the log level and tried agaian. Below is the result.

Comparing with what showed up on disk, I noticed that the files referenced in the log, did not appear on the file system.

The 12 files mentioned in Rip.log:
4389674c.wav
223f5ceb.wav
15b4baf0.wav
78be21cf.wav
68d24613.wav
50debcbe.wav
79bff32f.wav
22ee5cc6.wav
5708e716.wav
6903a929.wav
314ec7c8.wav
4426fe4a.wav

The 12 files actually created on disc:
637d4c76.wav
76db238d.wav
34f06f70.wav
47fe84e9.wav
51c7eea2.wav
14abc19f.wav
3efc378f.wav
6ee6093b.wav
3c801d2d.wav
2f7eff63.wav
1bcf9409.wav
d53cc44.wav

The file referenced as being encoded to FLAC:
4fa3a87f.wav

No other wav file appeared in the -Tmp- directory.

However, something is working appropriately as I then switched the encoder to Apple Lossless and ran the rip again. While I did not receive any additional status messages to indicate a complete encode, the encoded file did appear alongside the log (no cue). The referenced source wave also did not appear in the temp directory. I presume that Rip isn't actually concatenating each file to a new image, but reading each in turn?

A new interesting item is that while watching another trial with the FLAC encoder, I noticed that the WAVE files referenced in the log ARE created. But after each track is finished, that file is renamed with a string which doesn't appear in the log. In fact, I think I just witnessed this with the final source file. The name referenced in the log is created and then disappears. I'm not sure if any of this is relevant, Rip seems to know where to find each file as the Apple Lossless encode succeeds. Multiple attempts at a FLAC image have not.

Ripping individual FLAC tracks worked correctly in my tests.

This is strange behavior- I tested on my system using the naming format you provided and I got a good FLAC file every time. Does this problem happen for every disc or only just one?

As far as some temp files not being removed, that is a bug. I will look into it.

I haven't tested with other discs yet, but I will. Are there any other log settings that might be useful? Or other info?

I've had the chance to test several more discs now and FLACs have failed to be generated from 3 out of the 7.
Those that failed:
Frank Black Francis - Frank Black Francis (2004) : discs 1 and 2
Mindy Smith - One Moment More (2004)

My guess is that for some reason the input WAVE for the FLAC encode isn't concatenated correctly. Possibly something to do with the metadata? Track layout?

I'll post the TOCs and CUEs for the Frank Black discs below. Maybe you can burn a matching disc with silence and see if it's replicable? I'll test more discs as I can and maybe find one we have in common.

Thanks for your help.
