FLAC > Apple Lossless results in skipping iPod tracks

Post by mchang » Tue Nov 21, 2006 5:53 pm

This discussion was started earlier (http://sbooth.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=66), but got sidetracked to talk about crashing iPods.

I have the same problem as the original poster. I start with a FLAC album. I use Max to convert to Apple Lossless. Everything seems to go fine, and I drag the resulting files into iTunes. I add album artwork, album 1 of 1, change genre (if needed), and tweak a few other tags.

Sync to iPod. Detach iPod and start playing. Sometimes only 5 of 10 tracks will play. The others are just skipped (the track name comes up for a second or so, I think). I can back up and select the track and play from menu (once or twice, it's skipped here, too, but will play on the third attempt).

Any suggestions?

Seems to work to take the FLAC, APE or other file and use Max to convert to AIFF. Drag AIFF to iTunes and select "Convert to Apple Lossless."

The extra step prevents the track skipping on iPod.
