Joint Stereo vs Stereo

Post by hacky » Sun Jan 29, 2006 7:12 pm

I prefer plain Stereo for MP3s but no matter what quality setting or combo I use, all MP3's are encoded in Joint Stereo. Is there any way to change this in Max?

Thanks, Howard

There is not in 0.5.4, sorry.

I did think this was a good idea, so I added the functionality and it will be there for the next release.

Howard, it is well known LAME 'Plain Stereo' produces MP3's of inferior quality compared to 'Joint Stereo', is there a specific reason to use it? It intrigues me ... :)

You really shouldn't. Joint stereo is higher quality than plain stereo in LAME, as Maurits has pointed out. There is absolutely no reason whatsoever to use 'stereo' with LAME.

If people still think joint stereo is worse, then they just need to be educated.
