Cue Sheet Blues revisited...

Post by benitox » Wed Apr 09, 2008 2:03 am

After much frustration trying to get Max to open/interpret a cue sheet/ape file combo a few months ago I gave up.
Today whilst tidying up my hard disk I playfully double-clicked the cue sheet and lo-and-behold all the tracks showed up ready for conversion! Then the dialog offering the Max update to 8.0 came up over the top, so I enthusiastically accepted.
On re-launch of the new version, the cue sheet is no longer usable - there are no tracks listed where there were before, only the Artist and Album fields at the top of the window have data.

It makes no difference whether I open the file by clicking or from the File>Open menu as advised on this forum (why would it?)...

As an aside, I noticed the 'file modified' date on the cue sheet has changed although I didn't change anything, only attempted to open and then closed the file. If Max changes data, shouldn't it ask before saving?

I find Max very useful for downsampling mp3 files to fit on my basic mp3 player, but this Flac/ape cue sheet bizzo is driving me insane!

Max doesn't modify cue sheets; at least, it shouldn't. Can you send me the problematic cue sheet so I can take a look? Also, are there any error messages printed to the console?

cue sheet attached...

You mean error messages in Max's log?
Nothing there, just "Max successfully launched"...
I must admit I know nothing about using the Terminal app is that's where you mean.

Thanks for looking at this.

I actually mean in Console, which is an application in your Utilities folder. Any error messages from Max should show up there.

Does the wave file (CDImage.wav) exist in the same directory as the cue?

Yes, with the same name except it is an ape file: "CDImage.ape"

Well, that's the problem then- the file name is wrong in the cue sheet.

This line in the cue sheet:

Code: Select all

FILE "CDImage.wav" WAVE
tells Max to look for a file named "CDImage.wav". Since that file doesn't exist there is no way Max can find it. If you change that line to

Code: Select all

FILE "CDImage.ape" WAVE
things should work.

Yes it is working now.
Thanks for helping me sort that out!
I do wonder why the cue-sheet tracks were displayed the first time i opened it and how the modification occurred...
thanks again.
