Song & Artist from compilations only under "title"

Post by xtreme-relaxing » Tue Apr 01, 2008 12:24 am

i have a problem. i have many compilations. when i will ripp, max show me the artist and the title from the songs, only under the topic "title". this is not good for me, because other programms show me then under the topic "artist" the name "varios" but i need the name of the file "Artist - Title" (for example" Wham - freedom" and not "varios artist - wham/freedom") for my dj programm .

will max support this way in the near future ??????

sorry for my bad english .-)

regards from east germany

Max pulls the track information from MusicBrainz:

http://musicbrainz.org/

So what you'll get is the information formatted in whatever way is MusicBrainz's "house-style". Alternatively, what you may get is the information formatted in whatever way whoever originally submitted the information to MusicBrainz did it. AFAIK, databases like MusicBrainz do check and review submissions -- at any rate if someone queries one -- but I don't know how consistently they do such checking.

Other programs will, likewise, be pulling information from a database. Now I suppose it's possible some other programs are re-formatting the information they pull. Or perhaps it may be that the ones you saw were using a different database.

Max's creator has made an AppleScript available that will fetch the information from iTunes instead. He can't draw directly on the database iTunes uses -- Gracenote -- because of the terms under which Gracenote does business. You might try that script as a way of populating the fields instead.

I don't know whether that will solve your problem or not: I haven't got any CDs of that type, so I don't actually know what either MusicBrainz or Gracenote does -- or usually does, as the case may be. But that would be worth trying.

Otherwise, I suppose you could customize the filenames. See the third tab along in Max's Preferences for the control to do that. If you did that, it would be possible to use a specialist tagging program to populate the tags from the filenames.
