cdparanoia ripper stuck?

Post by Threeee912 » Mon Jun 04, 2007 8:26 pm

I'm converting my CD collection to VBR MP3's to use in iTunes. I have 2 drives, the built-in stock Sony CD burner, and a external Firewire Plextor CD/DVD burner.

I set the ripper to "cdparanoia", and left the "Allow skipping" at 20. I ripped a few disks. I found paranoia had good error correction with the few scratched disks in my collection.

Next, I started to rip a disk which was slightly scratched. It played well in iTunes. I started to rip.

It stalled at 0% on the first track. After waiting an hour, it was still at 0%. I tried the "Stop" buttons, which worked on the queued tracks, but not the one at 0%. The other CD drive worked fine during this time. I don't want to force quit Max, as I still has about 60 songs in the encoding queue.

I guess I could just wait for the queue of MP3's to encode and then quit Max.

Is this a bug? Is there anyway to prevent this from happening again?

EDIT: The track finally stopped ripping and I ejected the disk. Wonder what happened...

Happened again. Stuck at 98% on the 2nd track of another disk. 'Stop' doesn't seem to actually stop ripping until the UI updates again.

I've had the same problem. It seems as if stopping the re-reading of the drive is beyond the control of Max.
It's possible to quit Max, but that will terminate all current processes. It would be nice if the "stop" command could be faster.

I seem to be having the same problem too. This is how it happened. I noticed that I put in some of the metadata tags in wrong. So I stopped all ripping activity. But when I did that it no longer ripped the first track on that particular CD. Everything else works great but the first track is still stuck at 0%. I tried reinstalling Max. I also tried deleting the preferences. But nothing has worked so far. Anyone knows a solution out there?
