Errors Using FLAC Spotlight Importer.mdimporter

Post by bjast » Sat Apr 11, 2015 2:53 pm

Hello - I'm attempting to use FLAC Spotlight Importer.mdimporter on MacBook Pro Yosemite 10.10.1.

When I enter mdimport -d 1 /Users/Bill/Desktop/BachFlacSample.flac

I get the following output:

2015-04-11 07:32:06.019 mdimport[1236:1034795] Error loading /System/Library/Spotlight/FLAC Spotlight Importer.mdimporter/Contents/MacOS/FLAC Spotlight Importer: dlopen(/System/Library/Spotlight/FLAC Spotlight Importer.mdimporter/Contents/MacOS/FLAC Spotlight Importer, 262): no suitable image found. Did find:

Can someone help me with this?

Thanks

If you tried FLACImporter-1.1 (2009), try the later FLACImporter-10.6+ (2011, but confusingly also labelled version 1.1 because the source was not changed)

Hmm ...

I just installed the version you mentioned and the results have changed to:

mdimport -d 1 /Users/Bill/Desktop/BachFlacSample.flac
2015-04-11 09:12:42.597 mdimport[1568:1349867] Imported '/Users/Bill/Desktop/BachFlacSample.flac' of type 'org.xiph.flac' with plugIn /System/Library/Spotlight/FLAC Spotlight Importer.mdimporter.

Not sure what this is telling me.

Shouldn't I be getting some metadata about this track instead of this information?

The importer does not provide or show metadata. The importer makes metadata in the flac files available to Spotlight so one can do a Spotlight search for the imported flac files using data such as title, artist, album and genre. After using the importer it may take a while before the data are indexed and become useable in Spotlight.

Hm ...

After waiting for some time I have yet to see the kind of metadata I was hoping to find in my FLAC files.

Using Houdaspot which works with Spotlight indexing, I still cannot see items like Sample Rate, Duration, Artist, and other valuable data.

I can see these items in a utility such as Metadactics a but not in Spotlight related applications.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Exactly what do you expect FLAC Spotlight Importer to do? It does not provide metadata, it does not add metadata to your flac files, it does not show the metadata. It only makes finding the imported files by metadata in Spotlight possible. Provided, of course, that the flac files contain such metadata and that the imported data were indexed by Spotlight. If you cannot find the imported file by entering one of the metadata in Spotlight search field, maybe you need to let Spotlight do a re-indexing.

Hello Again

Having taken some time to learn a little more about how PlugIns work, I'd like to ask a few basic questions:

1. How can I get a list of my current Import PlugIns using Terminal?

2. Specifically, how can I know if your FLAC Importer.mdimported is installed on my Mac?

3. If it is installed I assume I should be able to use commands like: kMDItemAlbum: to find FLAC files with similar Album Titles. Is this correct?

Any assistance with this would be appreciated.

Bill

When trying to use the importer (in //Library/Spotlight/) I get the errors

10/24/15 5:15:16.674 PM mdimport[49587]: Error loading /Library/Spotlight/FLAC Spotlight Importer.mdimporter/Contents/MacOS/FLAC Spotlight Importer: dlopen(/Library/Spotlight/FLAC Spotlight Importer.mdimporter/Contents/MacOS/FLAC Spotlight Importer, 262): no suitable image found. Did find:

This is with the current 1.1 version under Mavericks 10.9.5
after trying to import a directory into spotlight with mdimporter ~/MyFlacs/*
