Max doesn't create a file; it simply writes the output to the Log window. You have the option of saving the text in the Log window to whatever location is desired...

threading issues

It turns out that the way Max updates the status from the worker threads might not be thread safe. I am looking into this issue; the crashes are actually occurring in system code that is supposedly thread-safe, but doesn't seem to be. I will post more as soon as I have an idea what is going on.

ouch!

I will try to get a mixed-mode CD so I can investigate this problem. It definitely sounds like an ugly one!

Re: Built in FLAC encoder settings

I am curious to the options that MAX uses for it's built in FLAC encoding, mainly what level of compression it defaults to. Is there a way in the current version to modify this? In the current version there is no way to modify the FLAC settings; version 0.5 will allow for various aspects of FLAC to...

Re: What formats ARE tagged?

What formats Are tagged with metadata in a manner that iTunes can play/read? I have to say that once the tagging issuse is resolved, this will be one of the best and most useful pieces of audio software for the mac. Kudos! For version 0.4.1, FLAC/Ogg Vorbis/MP3 are tagged. For version 0.5 (which sh...

Re: AAC Issue

I can't seem to add AAC-encoded files to my iTunes music library. The format in the Max preferences says I'm using AAC ADTS, and the encoded file has a ".aac" extension. Am I using the wrong format? Thanks in advance. You probably want to use MPEG4 Audio / AAC (the one with the .m4a extension). It ...

I've found the lame preferences confusing.. Is there a way to set command lines? For V2, V0, aps, etc? There is no way to do this because Max doesn't use the LAME command line encoder; it uses the LAME library directly. I know the preferences are a source of consternation for many so I will create ...

Re: What version of lame does max use?

I know that 3.97 beta is the new recommended version on hydrogenaudio.org. I'm guessing that, if anything, I could go into the contents folder and change the version used, but I was just curious. Max 0.4.1 uses LAME 3.97 beta 2. If you select the 'Max' -> 'Components' menu the info on several libra...

Re: cache

So does that mean that Max doesn't work reliably on drives with hardware cache? Max should work fine on drives with hardware caches, but there is a possibility for errors to be introduced in certain cases. For example, if paranoia detects a scratch and asks for a re-read of that sector, in all like...

drive cache buffers

Max uses the raw disk nodes for reading, which bypass the filesystem buffer cache. (i.e., instead of /dev/disk1 Max uses /dev/rdisk1) However, Max does not currently disable the hardware cache cache. I'm actually not sure if this is possible on OS X, and if it is, I am not sure how to do it. I didn'...

The current version of Max is 0.4.1, released 11 December 2005.
