Question Marks

If a song title has a "?" in it, why do the resultant file names only show "_" instead.

I'm using a MacPro with 10.4.9.

BTW, I can update the file name in Finder to show a question mark.

Question for elduderino

As I've used Max to convert a music collection WAV to AIFF usng Max, I'm more than a little concerned if I'm going to have problems with my upcoming planned purchase of an Apple TV.

Is the problem localized to the MP3 format or does it apply to all formats created by Max?

Thanks

sbooth-

Great. Were you also able to figure out why, in the unstable version I was testing, my selected preference (place the output in the same folder as the source file) does not stick?

Thanks

sbooth- Okay. I installed the current unstable version of Max (Max-r1055.tar.bz2). In preferences, I de-selected "Dynamically show and hide windows" and then specified the rest of the applicable preferences. As a test, I asked Max to convert a single wav file to aiff and to deposit the result in the...

sbooth- You got it! The only thing I would add is that when a user wants to preserve the tree structure they should specify from where on the tree does it start (i.e., the source folder from which everything from that point to the end of the branch is to included in the action) and to where do they ...

Yonzie- I understand. I've already worked around the problem another way, but to me, all of these workarounds are ridiculous. BTW, I don't see why you say "The problem is that Max can't read folders as tags, and therefore it can't create a folder structure based on the tags (since they don't exist)....

Yonzie- Thanks for trying to help out, but I don't understand how your solution solves my problem/request. In my opinion, the problem with nearly all of these types of applications is that they generally assume the user wants to dump all of the processed output (pictures, sound tracks, etc.) which c...

Differing Input and Output Targets

Being new to Max, I hope I haven't just missed seeing/finding this feature, but here's what I'd like to see.... Suppose you have a collection of music organized in a typical tree structure organized like: Drive 1 Artist 1 Album 1 Track 1 Track 2 Track N Album 2 Track N Album N Artist 2 Artist 3 Let'...

Hmmm. Brand new to Max, but in reviewing the threads quickly, didn't see this issue. For me, everything works fine until I turn offthe machine. Upon reboot, Max will open, but won't start any re-coding jobs (e.g., wav to aiff) no matter how many times I request it to do so. The only thing I've found...
