Re: c2 problems

C2 can be turned off using the checkbox in the drive information section of the inspector. I am not convinced that Rip's C2 interpretation is incorrect, but rather that C2 errors are more common than I originally thought and shouldn't be treated as showstoppers in the ripping process. I have exactl...

Re: filename problem

It does happen with the 1381 build, the binary I have dates from the 11th October 2008. There is actually a patch attached to the defect that that I linked to but I haven't looked at it to see if it's any good. I've actually just run into this bug myself after wanting to reconvert all my music to a ...

Re: filename problem

You aren't doing anything wrong there is a long standing bug which means that Max ignores AlbumArtist tags for the purposes of output directories when converting see

FLAC 1.2.0 released

FLAC 1.2.0 has been released.

There are some changes in the decoder which allow future 1.2.x encoders to achieve better compression. As with previous release series Josh has stated that a 1.2.0 decoder will decode anything compressed with any future 1.2.x encoders.

You may want to have an audio unit which decodes matrix surround sound. This would need stereo input and 5 outputs (Left, Centre, Right, Surround, Sub). I can't think of any other non 1-1 processing that I'd want to do in a home setting. If you do want to do more complex processing then you can rout...

GUI and scrolling and sorting

I've observe that in both the Play Queue and the library that the column withs are independent of the size of the window. Therefore if you resize the window you ge a horizontal scroll bar to scroll to the bit of the window you can't see. However some strange things go on with the last collum. If you...

And if you want to do that you might as well use iTunes.

As far as sounding better, this is a possibility. I could just be as simple as play not having a software volume control in the audio path. Most people don't realise that it's preferable to keep the gain at unity all the way until the volume knob on the amplifer. Also many people might have iTunes ...

Some small remarks, not all essential for 0.1 but maybe worth considering: * Maybe make the format searchable as well. That way you can select all your Ogg or MP3 files and *only* those files for future mass metadata editing or ReplayGain scanning for instance. I'm no too sure about this one for no...

Re: Using FAAD in Play?

* Copyright is no problem, the GPL could not even exist if it weren't for copyright. I never said copyright itself was a problem. To see the problem consider if you were writing an audio conversion daemon which had no GUI,no interactive command line and was accessed via a socket. In this case you c...

Regarding gapless AAC , I'm not sure this is likely with the CoreAudio AAC decoder. Perhaps if I wrote my own AAC decoder (using faad?) this would be an option. Currently Play supports gapless for LAME MP3, Vorbis, FLAC, PCM formats, and Apple Lossless. FAAD is actually a pretty decent decoder, whe...

Is it possible to read the extra info that iTunes uses to make AAC play gaplessly or will Play only be able to play true gapless formats gaplessly?

If it is possible I think it should be implemented before a 1.0 release is declared.

True gapless playback can only occur when the two PCM formats are identical (in bit-depth, sample rate, endian-ness, et al). Will play be able to play AAC pseudo gapless like iTunes? At the moment there appears to be a gap. I know that AAC is not really a gapless format and that iTunes puts an extr...

At further risk of replying to myself would it be possible to the build number of Play in the about box so we can identify what version we are running?

Argh at risk of relying to myself this seems to be exactly the same problem as reported by cheesedub a one post down.

The AAC files in question in my case were created by Max by transcoding from FLAC (probably a 0.6x release) and work correctly in iTunes.
