"Sample size not supported" alert

Forgive me for appearing to monopolize the Help forum, but I'm new to Max and still trying to find my sea legs. I'm a quick study, though, so thanks for your patience. In converting flac files to ALAC for installation in iTunes, some files fail to convert and I get the following alert: "An error occ...

aiff directly from itunes

Indeed you're right, Mike1, the most sensible workflow for me is to convert from Flac directly to Apple Lossless, which I can store in iTunes for later burning as AIFF CD's if and when needed. I was just experimenting with converting flac to aiff while I was trying to figure out how to tweak the pre...

elegant operation

After surmounting the learning curve necessary to create my Apple Lossless (m4a, not CAF files) I'd concur that it'd be great if the various file output functions in Max could be labeled with the names an average user might recognize. But once you figure out what you're trying to make it do, the pro...

Aiff 16 or 24 bit?

I'm sure this has been answered here elsewhere, but I got so many hits when I searched for the topic that I thought I'd simply post it anew as clearly as possible. When choosing default bitrate settings for converting flac files to Aiffs that I plan to burn to disc, I always assumed 16 bit was best,...

Preferences confusion

Thanks, all, for the great info. I chose the Apple CAF format since it was the only one that had Apple in the name, and when I saw Apple Lossless as a choice in the encoder settings, I figured I was homefree. I didn't realize I could choose MPEG 4 and then set the encoder settings to Apple Lossless ...

Flac to Lossless (itunes won't read)

Hi, I downloaded Max for the express purpose of converting a bunch of .flac files to apple lossless, (the format I use for storing my entire music library in iTunes songs.) I was able to convert the tracks fine using the Apple Lossless setting, but for some reason iTunes won't read the resulting .ca...

Well, I went into the prefs, clicked the Output section and then unchecked the box that said specify file names for output. Doing that apparently forced the ripper to default to what was on the original disc, which solved the double double track listing problem.

Thanks again for your help!

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm still new enough at this that I'm not sure I followed every nuance, but I think something like what you describe may have happened. When I look at the album folder on my Music Disc, the title of the folder is the name of the album with an underline where a semi colon s...

Getting double track numbers in my ripped songs

Still trying to find my way around and discovered that my first rip is proceeding well, if awfully slow compared to iTunes. I have it set to paranoia setting, since I don't want to be surprised later, but it's five or six times slower than the error correction speed on iTunes. But the actual reason ...

How do I set Apple Lossless for ripping?

Hi, I'm new to Max and am having trouble figuring out which of the CD ripper encoding settings will get me Apple Lossless files. (I'm ripping standard commercially issued CDs to an external HD for archival storage.) Or should I just use FLAC? My only hesitation is that I've already ripped about a hu...
